Working with languages

Expand your career around your language skills

When I was young I faced exactly this situation. Growing up speaking German and Italian I had language skills I knew I wanted to use at work… but I didn’t know where to go from there.

So I became a translator. Then a multilingual digital marketer. Then a podcast host and coach – helping people like you find out how you can use your language skills to launch or boost your career.

What are the benefits of working with languages?

Languages are the foundation of communication and relationship building

When we meet someone who speaks the same language – like English, French or even the way we express ourselves – we feel a connection. We have something in common.

And when we connect to someone we are more likely to engage with them. For example we are more keen to help them out or to buy from them.

Languages are the soft skill at the heart of communication and relationship building – and a differentiator in the AI era.

That’s why I decided to sit down and talk to people of different backgrounds and career paths – to find out how they use their languages in their careers.

The Working With Languages podcast

My goal with the podcast is to showcase the huge variety of jobs and careers with languages available to us.

What are the jobs with languages?

My guests come from different countries and speak different languages – and they all use them in the work they do.

It is by talking to them that I developed this Working With Languages Framework:

You can use your languages in any job and industry – simply choose what role you would like them to have in your career.

What others have said about the podcast

After talking to Manuel and Marina from Yoast I knew they understood the point of the Working with languages podcast. Here is what Manuel said:

“Thank you so much for having us on your podcast! I truly enjoyed our conversation! Your podcast is a really inspiring platform for anyone with a background in languages.”

About me

My name is Sonia and I’m a translator turned digital marketer turned podcaster & coach. Having grown up in Italy speaking German and Italian, I have always loved languages, and I spend a lot of time thinking about work and the future of work.

In my digital marketing job I work with companies managing their Google Ads and social media ads. And while my working language is English I regularly manage campaigns in multiple languages.

If you’d like to find out more about me, in this episode I talk about my background, career path and why I decided to create this podcast.
